Now here’s a wedding with a difference – one couple but two wedding days and two wedding dresses, both from Alice Rose Bridal! Laura first met Daniel in her first year at uni, when Daniel came to visit one of his friends, and they maintained a long-distance relationship until they studied for their teaching qualification together (incidentally, teacher folks, they now work at the same school in the same year group and although this wasn’t done intentionally, they love it!). It was on their first holiday abroad, to Tenerife, that Dan proposed as they sat on a roof watching the sun set – yep, we’ve melted! – and they were due to get married in 2020 but yes, you’ve guessed it, Covid hit…
Laura first met Donna when she went to a Wedding Fair and saw that the model from Alice Rose Bridal was wearing a Dando dress that she’d seen on Say Yes To The Dress. She instantly booked an appointment to visit the boutique and fell in love with both Donna and her first dream dress – Harmonia by Dando London. When Laura and Daniel had to postpone their wedding to April 2021, they felt like they were putting their lives on hold, so decided to carry on with the rest of their life plans. Which meant that Laura soon discovered that by April 2021 she was going to be 16 weeks pregnant. It was such wonderful news, but it did meant that she needed another dress – which involved another trip to the boutique!
“It was such a unique experience for a unique time! At one point my mum had to pin my dress whilst receiving instructions from the seamstress on Zoom, telling her where to put each pin. It was then taken to the seamstress to alter! [Check out some heart-warming advice from Laura’s lovely Mum, Alison, on our Bride Squad blog – advice on being an amazing MOB that is, not pinning dresses!] I’m so grateful to Donna and her team for being so supportive throughout – it honestly felt like it was never going to happen at times, but Donna was with me throughout the whole journey.”
“I really like the lacework on Harmonia by Dando London, especially the way it outlines the low V on the back. It’s so classy, and the long detachable train meant that once we’d finished having our photos taken it could be removed to dance the night away. My second Alice Rose dress had similar elements as I wanted them to link. I wore the same veil for both for continuity. My advice when looking for your dress is be open-minded and also look for a dress that makes you feel comfortable and confident – or two dresses in my case!”
“As it was we had the actual wedding in April 2021 when it was still rule of 6, so we’d invited both sets of parents, but Dan’s parents tested positive a few days before so couldn’t come. We were devastated. The Best Man and bridesmaid joined us instead though and my sister filmed it through the window and put it live on Zoom, which made it really special! Then in August 2022 we renewed our vows and I got to wear my original Dando dress. It was the first time everyone had got together, our baby was there and my brother officiated it as it wasn’t an official ceremony, so again it was so special and so worth the wait!”
