A winter wedding with the opulence and glamour of The Great Gatsby? We can barely contain ourselves! Megan and Clark met through a mutual friend and got engaged on one of the bridges in Amsterdam just a few months later. Megan’s ring was an Art Deco antique, complete with a ruby and pearls, and this laid the seed for the theme of the wedding itself. The couple chose The Waterfront as they loved the water as a homage to Amsterdam and as a nod to Clark’s grandad who loves narrowboats, but also because it allowed them to go all out with their Great Gatsby theme. Chris’ mother did all of the decorations, making it a real family affair, and it was a feast for the eyes – glitz, glam, pearls and ostrich feathers. Megan described it as, “more on top of more!” and their guests thoroughly embraced it with fur coats and flapper dresses aplenty!

“Alice Rose was the first place we went to and we soon realised we didn’t need to go anywhere else! I was nervous before I got there as I’d seen so many TV programmes where the bride’s entourage are so opinionated, but it wasn’t anything like this – it was such an enjoyable experience. I had an idea of the kind of dress I wanted as had looked at the website, but when I tried it on it looked completely different. I tried on six or seven dresses of different styles and then Donna went and found Anastasia from the stockroom as it had recently been in the shop window. I tried it on and instantly fell in love.”

“I love the pearls on the bodice and the glitter in the skirt. In the light it sparkles and looks lovely – perfect for a winter wedding. I had one requirement for my dress and that was to have buttons and Anastasia certainly did! They set the whole dress.”

“The size of the dress meant that I made an impact, even in such a big venue, and the sequins and pearls tied in with the bridesmaid dresses. Donna helped me select a long veil that had glitter in to match the glitter in the bodice of my dress – you cannot have too much glitter in my opinion [we agree, Megan!]. She then found me a 1920s-style headpiece which tied the whole thing together.”

“My advice when shopping for a wedding dress is to have an open mind and be brave. For instance, I thought I would never have a mermaid dress and yet I very nearly did – the dresses look so different when you try them on and you’ll be surprised! I really had a dream wedding and wouldn’t change a thing.”
