Jenny and James first met in Birmingham when they attended a course on spinal injuries, with James being a buddy to his uncle. The company arranged a ball, and what do you know, they ended up sitting on the same table! Jenny and James chatted all evening and into the early hours of the morning, and the rest was history. After nine months of maintaining a long-distance relationship from Blackpool, Jenny moved to where James lived in Leicester, and their love continued to blossom. When it came to the proposal, James wanted it to be a complete surprise, so tried to propose when Jenny was least expecting it. We think he achieved this – Jenny says they were away in the caravan with family when he randomly got on one knee and proposed! They chose Donington Park Farmhouse for their venue as they wanted something a little different, and Jenny says she wouldn’t change a thing about the day – it couldn’t have gone any better!

“My Alice Rose experience was really nice. My mum passed away in 2008, so I took my mother-in-law and three aunties to the appointment as they’re the motherly figures in my life and it was so special. I really wanted to try a mermaid style dress and then was happy to go with whatever! I tried on five dresses and the fourth one turned out to be the one, but I didn’t realise at the time. I went to another shop as wanted to make the most of the experience, but nothing compared to that dress, so I came back to Alice Rose.”

“When I tried on my dress, Donna pointed out that it was the only dress that I hadn’t put my hands over the front to cover part of it. My hands were at the side and I felt comfortable in it. I thought to myself, wow, she’s right – she really understood me. This was the most important thing for me: that I felt comfortable and like myself. I don’t really wear many dresses, but I felt like a princess.”

“I was a little worried that I would trip over, but Cherilyn the seamstress hemmed the skirt so I could see my feet without it being too short. She was amazing – she made the dress look perfect. The train was another thing I’m not used to but I loved it! I also loved the lace detail and the buttons on the back of the dress. I felt comfortable but special and it fit with the easy-going feel to our day.”

“My advice would be to go with your gut instinct and choose a dress you feel comfortable in. Everyone at Alice Rose is so lovely and really understood me and I’m so glad.”
