Joanne and Ben first met in Primary school, but lost touch when they went to different senior schools. Fast forward to the first lockdown, when they reconnected on social media. It was Joanne’s last term at uni and her dissertation was taking over, but they didn’t give up and ended up talking every day during lockdown. By the second lockdown Ben had asked her to move in, and they didn’t look back. One Friday night, Joanne had been away working on a film and returned, shattered, to a candlelit bubble bath and instructions not to go into the living room. When she was allowed to enter, she found rose petal and candles everywhere. Ben produced his granny’s ring from behind a bunch of flowers and asked “Will you look after it for me?” Yep, our hearts have already melted! They got married in St Helen’s in Ashby: a church close to their hearts due to it being the focus and then resting place of Ben’s granny and grandpa. Mythe Barn therefore seemed the perfect reception venue: close enough to the church, a gorgeous setting where the children could just run around and still stay safe, and the food was amazing – definitely a priority!
“When I moved to Ashby, I found myself walking past Alice Rose Boutique so many times and always thought it would be a lovely place to go – and I was right! Leah and Donna are so happy and bubbly and I loved it the second I walked in. I’d really wanted to milk the experience of searching for my dream dress so had booked four appointments in two days, but I just wanted to go back to Alice Rose. Nothing was beating it. I instantly felt a loyalty to Donna and Leah as they make you feel like part of the family, and the dresses were all so beautiful.”
“My cousin first picked Amberlee by Romantica of Devon and my first thought was “is she too much?”. However I tried her on and fell in love. I’ve never seen a bodice like it before: it was so beaded and beautiful. I really felt like a bride, and my step-daughter said I looked like a Disney princess, which I was all for! We all have parts of our body we’re not happy with but Cherilyn added some sparkly sleeves which looked like they were meant to be there all along – she really is a wizard!”
“Amberlee fit beautifully with the grandeur of the church but also the casual vibes of Mythe Barn. She is grand and spectacular but also felt super comfortable. The fuller skirt made me feel like a proper princess but was also soft and great for dancing!”
“My first piece of advice is make sure someone asks the groom if he has the rings! When my photographer arrived at the church it looked like Ben was running away(!), but he was actually just making a mad dash to go and get the rings from our home, which was luckily nearby! So ask the question! But also, just enjoy it! You don’t need to stress; take a breath and just enjoy the day that you deserve.”
